The concept "Dangren" refer to the Intellectuals of Dong Han Dynasty who strive to the eunuch and the wife’s families of royal. They can also be called virtuous scholars. The organization of Dangren was a incompact political alliance which was depends upon similar political attitude and ethical standards.Dangren appreciated and supported each other. The officials of Dangren always promoted their comrades. The organization of Dangren consisted of officials and recluses. Imperial College students regarded as temporary officials or recluses were special group of Dangren and extremely radical members of Dangren.Officials generally had the background of Confucianism. Relative majority of them came from aristocratic families politically influential for generations, so they represented benefits of such families. Some of recluses were concerned with political situation and entered into politics so that they became supporters and public assistance of officials. Imperial College students united with officials and recluses because of community of interests, affective link and opportunity for interaction. Dangren strived to the eunuch mainly by the way of principled criticism, and Imperial College students were the most activist propellants of it.In the first Danggu, many virtuous scholars were debarred from holding office. There were thirteen victims who can be identified. However, this Danggu lasted only for quite short time and it’s not a very severe blow to Dangren. Public opinion supported virtuous scholars so enthusiastically that the reputation of Dangren was promoted and the general mood of flaunting each other became more and more popular. When Douwu and Chenfan were in power, they promoted many famous virtuous scholars and virtuous scholars came to the peak of authority. Owing to the fail of Douwu’s coup to perish the eunuch, many Dangren were persecuted. There were twenty-three victims who can be identified and four victims which are conjectural. In the second Danggu, many famous Dangren were killed, plenty of Dangren were debarred from holding office. There were fifty-one victims who can be identified and six victims which are conjectural. Dangren’s relatives so-called "Wushu", students and old subordinates were also debarred from holding office, even those students’ and subordinates’"Wushu" were not immune. During long period of Danggu, some Dangren possibly weren’t debarred from holding office exhaustively and rigidly. The second Danggu aggravated the despair of some intellectuals, and they were worldly-wise and played safe. Some intellectuals who were originally loyal to imperial power started to betray it, or even turned into the power which disrupted Dong Han Dynasty after the disaster. The painful price in the second Danggu didn’t make all virtuous scholars amort, and plenty of them were still loyal to imperial power. They tried to supported and saved Dong Han Dynasty in orthodox or Machiavellian ways. All in all, the negative influence of the second Danggu wasn’t as severe as the academic circles appraised.
