As the medium of human cultural inheritance and transmission, the art museum plays an important role in our life. For a long time, the state-owned art museum takes this responsibility in our country. In recent years, with the economic development of our country, private economy is playing an increasingly important role in the society. Private art museum emerge as the times require and break the situation where state-owned art museum take the responsibility solely.As a new thing in our country, private art museum are getting well-known through their diversified exhibitions and flexible public education activities and scholars and media have paid much attention to them. Although our private art museum are developing rapidly, under the political circumstances at home, private art museum are facing many problems and challenges. Some of them occur for external reasons such as policies and some lie in private art museum themselves.Under that background, this paper selected three art museum representing three types of art museum in Shanghai----Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum. Minsheng Art Museum and Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art as research cases. The author elaborated on the advantages and disadvantages of different business patterns and found out the reasons for the problems by analyzing and comparing these three Art Museum in terms of business backgrounds, exhibitions, public education, collection and business activities. This paper is intended to provide some targeted and valuable suggestions for the development of private art museum through the analysis and comparison and give enlightenment to the business of private art museum at home.
