In recent years,non-state-owned museums have become an important component of the museum family in China. However,in addition to the continuous increase in the number, the development of non-state-owned museums has turned into a bottleneck and faces a dilemma, and a large number of them are closed each year because of unfavorable operations. From the perspective of public service, the paper takes the display design of non-state-owned museums as the research object,in order to provide a new perspective for the construction of non-stateowned museums—— optimizing the development of non-state-owned museums through the improvement of display design. The article starts from two directions. At first, through the literature search and data collection, the basic situation of the history, quantity and scale of non-state-owned museums in China is summarized, and used as the background reason for the current status of design.Second, through field research on non-state-owned museums in the Yangtze River Delta,a lot of detailed information was obtained,so as to understand the current state of display design of non-stateowned museums clearly for us.The paper is divided into three parts. At the first part, the core questions has been putted forward: How to optimize the operation and development of China's non-state-owned museums through design in the current era? At the second part, based on the analysis of the survey results,we summarizes the achievements and problems of the non-state-owned museum display design from the aspects of openness, education, display and social services, and analyzes the causes. At the last,by combining with the design cases of excellent private museums,we propose some enlightenments for the display design of non-state-owned museums. And the conclusions, innovations and limitations of the research are expounded in this part.
