Study On Yun Yu-ding Chengzhai Diary

In the tremendous amount of late Qing Dynasty history,The diary as a unique historical forms have long attractedthe attention of researchers. The Yun Yu-ding ChengzhaiDiary, as One of the Compilation Committee of nationalhistory of the Qing Dynasty literature, was arranged by Mr.Shi Xiao-feng, since its press by the Zhejiang ancientbooks publishing house,2004April, has caused widelyattention in the academic circle. The book contain2volumes, about1.2million words, its rich content is thewitness and microcosm of late Qing Dynasty and thebeginning of The Republic of China. This thesis is an anlysis and reserch about the YunYu-ding Chengzhai Diary. The paper contains six chapters:First, give a brief introduction about the Chengzhai diaryand the author. Second, sum up the main content of thediary, they were summarized into five aspects: the recordof Yun Yu-ding’s home furnishing and friendship; therecord of Yun Yu-ding’s reading scholarly and engaged inpublic welfare undertakings; the record of customs andtheir stories and anecdotes; the record of the imperialcourt system; the record and comment on the currentaffairs and the important persons of the late Qing Danstyand the beginning of The Republic of China. Third, pointout the writing characteristics of the Chengzhai Diary, asthe vivid writing languages and the lots of headnotes. Fourth, point out the Chengzhai Diary’s rich value, such as the highvalue of historical, literature, traditional Chinesemedicine and the art of calligraphy. Fifth, after affirmedthe Chengzhai Diary’s rich value,point out the problemsexist in the diary, such as the lost and the sudden end ofthe diary, the one or two error date records and the backto front situation. In reference to the relevant historicalmaterials, I give out my answers about these problems,such as, excpt the Yun Yu-ding’s son Yun Bao-hui said thereason of thediary’s lost, I think the diary was deleted bysome people on purpose. Sixth, compared the ChengzhaiDiary and the Chongling chuan xin lu. This two books havethe same author, I point out the different records on the same things of the two books. After the comparison, wecan see that the Chengzhi Diary’s record is morecreditable. Therefore, the academic circle shoud givemore attention to the Cheng-zhai diary, and seek the lostdiary in every possible way.
