Bai Juyi is another famous poet ranking only second to Li Bai andDu Fu. Born in829in Tang Dynasty and died from disease inAugust,846, Bai Juyi spent18years, a long and recluse old days, inLuo Yang. It has been estimated that Bai wrote about1010poemswith obvious artistic characteristic in his old age which reflected hisrich and complicated experience, emotion in his old age and had angreat influence in these poems in the middle and late Tang.If we wantto have a better understand to Bai’s poem creation andcapriciousness of his writing style,we should research his poemswritten in his old age.This essay can be divided into four parts. The first part talksabout mild allegorical poems written by Bai in his old age, whichalthough focus on individual life, they also involve in people’slivelihood and national fate. his poems became tactful and meaningfulrather than sharp and critical. The second talks about complicatedleisure poems of Bai. his poems nearly covered all aspects of life andshows his indifference to fame and wealth. The third deals with Bai’ssentimental poems. his sentimental poems turn to express his sorrowand pain to his breaking dream and flying time and life renewing. Thelast part mainly deals with artistic characteristic in his poems written in his old age. In this time, his poems turn to be in a pleasant stageand tend to be calm but sincere,plain and touching.
