This is a report on the translation of Chapter6of Sociology of Literaturewritten by John Hall. This chapter is mainly concerned with the gatekeepers insociology of literature: publishers, censors, critics, distributors, public libraries, andhow they exercise their duties in the book publishing process. Supported byRelevance Theory, this report discussed conversion, amplification, omission, divisionand combination used in academic texts translation, and solved the problems intranslating process. When translating academic texts, the translator is required to keepa balance between domestication and foreignization, use a combination of translationtechniques, give an accurate expression based on thorough understanding of theoriginal text so as to integrate translation with academic research.
