Study Of Mezzo-soprano Features Based On Bartoli’s Music Performance

Cecilia Bartoli is one of the most representative musicians in modern Italian bel canto. She isknown as “the fairy” in the world of vocal music art, because she has a very distinctivemezzo-soprano voice and perfect coloratura skills. The continuity, pitch and precision of hervoice with her passion and dedication makes her to be the most famous coloraturamezzo-soprano in the history of vocal music art. The only way to make her so significant istireless rehearsal and practice that helps her understand those music masterpieces. Hence, sheis the singer who deserved author to study on.In this paper, the author study on the individuality of Bartoli’s singing style to generatethe universality of mezzo-soprano performance. Bartoli has perfectly high-level singing skillsthat her voice is truly brilliant. Her intonation in coloratura lyrics is as accurate as thoseinstruments. This is why she can manage those masterpieces so well no matter they are lyricor dramatic. So, the author can do some research on Bartoli’s singing style and understandhow she performs those art works. Based on the research we have done, we can analyzewhich songs are right choices for mezzo-soprano and make a conclusion aboutmezzo-soprano features and diversity of its performance.From the perspective of research: author studies Bartoli’s singing style and artperformance to analyze features and diversity of mezzo-soprano performance. In the methodsof research, the author can use some document literature as references which include twoEnglish version biographies of Bartoli; the author interpreted some paragraphs of them to getmore information and enrich my thesis. On the other hand, based on the research of relativetheory and literature, the author who has many singing experience can illustrate theperformance features of mezzo-soprano. Bartoli always interpreted and expressed thosemasterpieces from different times and different composers culturally. The author derivedsome essences of Bartoli’s singing skills through her performance and her positive andaggressive personality. These essences will help author do a better job in singing performanceand vocality teaching.
