Dunhuang has saved70caves of the Mogao Grottoes in the Late of Tang Dynasty, the academic achievements of Dunhuang Grottoes are outstanding during nearly a century, and the research perspective trends to be diverse, and it even expands the depth and breadth.Seniors have already summarized the research results on the the Dunhuang Grottoes as a whole. But they did less summary articles for a period of the history. Through carding a period of history,we can clearly learn the weakness of the research and the areas that are not involved,and we can even understand the contents of the period totally.The caves in the late of Tang Dynasty, contain not only the large caves dug by the upper ruling class of Dunhuang, but also some caves in the small scale dug by the civilians such as the social citizens, families and so on. Most of them are well preserved, and have a common artistic features in the late of Tang Dynasty. We can clearly see the local spiritual and cultural activities of the late Tang Dynasty through the research contents of Grotto. The paper summarizes the research results of Mogao Grottoes in the late of Tang Dynasty. It clarifies the research status and its deficiency from the grotto, cave content, and grotto construction. We can see the cave research’s the development context in the whole study of the Mogao Grottoes in the late of Tang Dynasty by combing the research history of the whole Grotto in Mogao Grottoes and the history of the caves in the late of Tang Dynasty.
