Application Of Cloth’s Folding Language In Interior-Textile Design

As is well known, cloth is one kind of textile products spun with fiber materials such as cotton or flax. With the features such as soft texture, high plasticity and natural affinity, folding for cloth can express abundant sculptural sense and constituent, and then, endow the portrayed works with more humanistic spirit and cultural connotation.In this paper thesis, beneficial discussions were made for the application of cloth’s folding language in interior-textile design mainly with literature method and analysis and synthesis method. In the first part, conception of cloth’s folding language, together with its craft methods and characteristics were systematically expatiated, and the origin and evolution process of cloth’s folding language were also introduced. Secondly, aesthetic perceptions embodied with the cloth’s folding language were thoroughly discussed from four aspects such as material quality, craftwork, colouration and profiling. In the following part, application categories in different periods of the cloth’s folding language in the interior-textile design were detailedly introduced and compared, and individuation and hommization were concluded as two application principles for the cloth’s folding language. Furthermore, applications of new fiber materials in the design innovation for indoor textile, together with changes of function and role of the interior-textile caused with cloth’s folding language were also introduced. Based on the above studies and discussions, designed works of the author and its design concepts were expatiated in detail.
