Top-down And Bottom-up Attentional Contral And Survival Stimulus

Due to the capacity limits of human attention, not all incoming survival environment information can be processed. Attention is guided by top-down and bottom-up processing. Whether the attention of survival environment information is guided by top-down processing or the bottom up processing remains a debated question.Using a gaze cue paradigm and peripheral cue paradigm wherein effect of gaze cue and peripheral cue, different task demand, different survival stimulus, SOA conditions to investigate the role of survival information in the top-down and bottom-up processing. In experiment1, several university students searched for certain picture which contains different emotional arousal and letters under different gaze cue validity and different gaze emotion. In experiment2, more ecological stimulus were used, using the combination of gaze cue peripheral cue paradigm and more ecological stimulus to investigate the role of survival information in attention processing.The results showed that the reaction time was not significant difference when the task is unrelated with the survival information. This maybe indicated that the attention is guided by the top-down processing because the reaction time was not significant difference under different cue effect, survival information and SOA conditions. Only when the task is relevant to the stimulus features, the different cue and target could interact with each other. Overall this findings suggest that there is a default top-down setting of attention of human been. Search for survival information can be guided by the top-down processing.
