| Anhui province is neither the source of both Chinese drama nor the origin of mandarin, but, after the May Fourth Movement in1919, drama started to be welcomed and influential in this area. With the reform and open up policy conducted from the1980s, people were richer in both wealth and wise. And they became less content with the only entertaining activity—watching traditional dramas. From then on, Chinese drama was faced with shrinking market and challenging future. Under that circumstances, artists in Anhui drama circle worked consistently hard and explorec Anhui-characterized Drama, which finally made Anhui drama an important member of Chinese drama.Before the establishment of PRC, there used to be revolution-related dramas performed in revolution bases in Anhui. However, well-constructed and normally time-fixed drama shows started to appear from1950s. From then on, many city drama groups flourished in Anhui province. After years’ development, Anhui Drama Center, Bengbu Drama Club, and Huainan Drama Club are only examples that are characterized and became influential in drama writing and performing through the21st century. The paper is written with field tip research, detailed analyzing and full around deduction on the three examples.The paper attempts to conduct a research on the past and current situation of drama in Anhui province through field trips and reflect the future of modern drama. The paper can be divided into three parts, first of which is a review of the drama history in Anhui province. The end of the paper is a reflection on the future of modern drama in Anhui province. Along with the shrinking market and collapses of many drama clubs, drama groups in Anhui should try hard to capture reasonable way to innovate. Child play and living drama can be considered as models that do not only nurture potential audience but have a great effect on economic and social benefit. After all, children are the main force of the development of local drama.In order to fully develop and to strengthen its advantages, Anhui drama experimentally created small-stage drama shows, from which the uniqueness they were exploring is being praised by more and more audience.
