Camus is always regarded as a member of existentialism for his distinguished feature in philosophy. The majority of previous studies of Camus are philosophical analysis, therefore his perceptual color was ignored. The perceptual color in Camus’s works mainly derived from Ancient Greek culture. The Ancient Greek culture has a great influence on Camus. Both his novels and proses show a strong flavor of Ancient Greece. As a kind of secular culture,Ancient Greek culture is people-oriented,it advocated naturalistic life and longing for beauty, respect and satisfy people’s natural needs, distribute the pure and fresh sense of real life.Nietzsche cannot be ignored when we are making a study of Camus. Nietzsche has a deep study on Ancient Greek culture,he thought that the essence of Ancient Greek culture is composed of Apollo and Dionysus together.Apollo represents visual sense and beauty while Dionysus represents desire and instinct impulse in human’s deep heart. Both Apollo and Dionysus spirits are irrational concepts, the work together both inside and outside, formed the harmonious Ancient Greek culture.Apollo and Dionysus are the two core parts of Ancient Greek culture while the beauty represented by Apollo and the desire represented by Dionysus are the two important parts of secular life. The interpretations of Ancient Greek culture given by Nietzsche have something familar with Camus’s writing ideas, So this article analyzes the secular tendency in Camus’s literatural creation from the perspective of Apollo and Dionysus. The beauty in Camus’s works mainly refers to the beauty of nature and image. The desire mainly refers to the desire for love and life.Camus was influenced greatly by the natural idea of life in Mediterranean region, because he grew up in this area. In the face of death, he abandoned the hililistic morality and history, fully enjoying the real, beautiful life. In his works he criticized that morality and religion suppress human nature, destoryed beauty, showed us the traces of secularization. Camus’s idea of life inheriting from Ancient Greece gives a positive guidance for France youth and later generations. His thought is a fresh and peaceful one among the many thoughts in the beginning of20th century’s Europe.Although in Camus’s lifetime, his humanitarian spirit has been queried by many people,as time flies by,the value of his spirits and works is being accepted by more and more people.
