Jin Shengtan’s Theory Of Novel Creation

Jin Shengtan was a great talent on literary comment in Ming and Qing Dynasty. He made a-going investigation on the novel creation theories. He posed many point of views that go beyond the obvious in annotations of the story by the Water Margin. One of the most important aspects of the novel theories Jin Shengtan’s annotations were granular and arbitrary. There exists arguments about whether Jin Shengtan build up his unique theoretical system in academic circles.This paper will regards the creation process of the novel as a logical clue to study Jin Shengtan’s theories The creation process of the novel is the writing motivation, artistic conception and artistic transmission. On the one hand it can be avoided dismembering Jin Shengtan’s novel comments involved in the plost, characters, structures, language and so on. On the other hand, it is conducive to us to sorting out the Jin Shengtan’s views.The paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces Jin Shengtan and the historical background of his novel annotations and analyzing "Yin Yuan Sheng Fa". Jin Shengtan used Buddhist’s Yin Yuan Sheng Fa in his novel comment. He also raised concepts of " Literary Fictionality ","do it with your mind","Ge Wu". Jin Shengtan regarded "Yin Yuan Sheng Fa" as the key to reading novels., three and four are the key parts of this article.The second chapter mainly introduces Jin Shengtan’s novel theory of the creative motivation. This chapter mainly analyse the specific content, contradictions and internal relations of the three kinds of writing motivation.and I will makes an analysis of reasons of Jin Shengtan proposed the three writing motivation. Chapter three·the theory of novel conception. On one side, Jin Shengtan put forward "a book in the chest",he thought that writing novels need know the main idea of the article. On the other hand, Jin Shengtan proposed the idea of "loyalty and consideration",and this idea provides the basis for the character customization theory. Jin Shengtan regarded the "character" as the main measure of novels, which is a great progress in the history of Chinese literary criticism, Jin Shengtan also discussed the psychological mechanism of understanding of the concept of existence in the process.The fourth chapter analysis Jin Shengtan’s theory of "three kind of boundaries".At the same time,we will analyse Jin Shengtan’s theory of grammar related to the characters and the method to write the plot structures.The fifth chapter evaluates the Jin Shengtan’s novel theory.Firstly,this chapter sum up the academic value of the Jin Shengtan’s novel theory.then analysis it’s historical status. Secondly,I will analyse problems of Jin Shengtan’s novel writing theoryAt last,this chapter will put focuses on the the contemporary value and significance of Jin Shengtan’s novel writing theory. Jin Shengtan put forward the "close reading"which is specific to read texts. the use of Jin Shengtan’s "close reading" can provide a new idea and method for the research and education in contemporary literature.
