Nowadays, China has already risen to the top of global construction. The central government and local governments of all levels regard promoting urbanization as a top priority. With the rapid development of building industry and market economy, various problems are reflected to different degrees in construction activities, such as selfish behaviors of different interest groups, low living quality of the disadvantaged group, social and environmental problems concerning sustainable development, and intergenerational conflicts and coordinated development. etc. Especially in those illegal projects of some regions, poor workmanship, accidents, and corruption are frequent occurrences, which have brought severe damage to our nation, society and people. All these problems have attracted wide attention and provoked discussion from the fields of philosophy and ethics, making ethical responsibilities of subjects of construction activities an increasingly prominent issue during the economic and social progress in China. Therefore, it is very essential to study the behaviors of subjects of construction activities from the perspective of ethics, and to provide resolutions with ethical support and evaluation criteria based on the establishment or adjustment of ethical principles and standards. The present thesis would conduct an in-depth analysis of subjects of construction activities and their ethical responsibilities, and discuss the consequences and rationale behind their irresponsible actions. By resorting to ethical contexts and concepts, the thesis elaborates on the characteristics of construction activities and responsibilities of the subjects. Moreover, it also predicts the trend of development of the industry on the basis of ethical value and moral standards, which must be taken into account throughout all construction activities. The thesis, which is divided into six parts, consists of introduction, main body and conclusion. The first part includes the background of the study, research methods and innovation of the present study. The second part mainly discusses the variety of subjects of construction activities due to increasing specialization of the society and a change of roles in building activities. The third part reveals the deep relationship between ethics and construction, clarifying the ethical responsibilities and obligations of subjects of construction activities. The fourth part reflects on the lack of ethics and morality on the part of subjects during the development of construction, and analyzes the rationale behind it. The fifth part expounds on the ways of realization and fulfillment of ethical responsibilities. It is believed that by introducing self-examination of moral evaluation mechanism, improving the legal system and supervision mechanism, and strengthening external constraints, regulation and guidance such as education of architecture and construction ethics, the subjects of construction activities would be propelled to internalize the ethical principles and standards into their code of conduct. The last part is the conclusion.
