A Research Of Xiaoxiang Recorded

Xiaoxiang Recorded, a distinctive set of mystery novels of the late Tang Dynasty, is with rich content and a tongue of comment and irony. Commentary on the book made by Li Jianguo in Descriptive Catalogue of Tang and Five Dynast is that the story is made to express something intentionally through the medium of Genie which is similar to the allegory of Liu Hedong. The recorded is taken as the subject by the author to clarify some issues such as its title, its author and the existing version; to mine the reality connotations beneath the surface of ghost and spirit by studying the story type of the book and its spirit tendences; and to analyze the artistic features of the stories in the recorded systematically.This paper is divided into four parts in all. The first part is the introduction about the version of Xiaoxiang Recorded, the author and the review of the existed research status and the scope of the present study. The second part is mainly about the classification of the stories in Xiaoxiang Recorded in accordance with the type of story and the brief introduction and analysis of the representative ones. The three types are encountering, obscurity and exhorting. The third part analyzes the ideological tendencies of Xiaoxiang Recorded thoroughly and digs the creative motivations of the creation of such kind of novel of the author in depth which manifest in two aspects, namely the reflection of the social reality of Tang Dynasty as well as the attitudes of scribes in Tang Dynasty. The last part is the exploration of the artistic features of Xiaoxiang Recorded by studying the narrative of the novel, creative means and stylistic characteristics and so on.
