Prince Lanling-Gao Changgong was an important general in the late Northern Qi Dynasty, who taken part in the all important battle between North Qi and North Zhou on the last time of Notrh Qi.Prince Lanling was described as a famous general, who was in charge of security of nation in many folklore and historians’thesis. But author don’t agree with that. Through the analysis of historical data, the author concluded that Prince Lanling wasn’t a military elite but with some military abilities. In fact, he was a brave general.Although Prince Lanling’s ability is not in the same level with Duan Shao and Hu Lv Guang, however, the reason that he get the similar status like them in the army is that his rise was manipulated by the loyal family, who lack of general, to protect he central state power from being grabbed by other nobilities. Because of the royal family lack of general who captain of war.Because of the contradiction between Emperor’s power and Prince’s status, Emperor took action to weaken his influence. The strengthened central state power and the national conflicts, have resulted in his tragic fate inevitably.Although, Prince Lanling had a tragic fate., he became a famous general in the bottom heart of people. The reason for this is people remold him. Firstly, The Song of Lanling defeated enemy, was sung and accepted by the two nations, which has propelled him in a further way. Secondly, Prince Lanling, who has both Han and Xianbei national characteristics, had exactly adapted to the trend of that time which was in the process of national amalgamation. In addition, historian’s description and culture transformation were the reason, too.
