The city of Lin’an, which enjoyed prosperous commerce and advanced civilization, was the national center of politics, economy and culture of Southern Song Dynasty. With its increasing power, the citizenry stratum began to board the arena of history. The rising of citizenry culture is the most important characteristic during the development of Hangzhou culture. The study of the life of the citizenry culture of Lin’an city during the Southern Song Dynasty is of great significance.Meng Liang Lu, which was written by Wu Zimu of Southern Song Dynasty, was a literary stretch describing the city of Lin’an and its prosperous economy and culture. Because of its rich and complex content, its function can’t be ignored in all the aspects of study of the society of Southern Song Dynasty. Especially the rich and detailed description of the urban life of the citizens makes it very suitable for our study of the living conditions of the citizenry stratum of Lin’an.This thesis will prove all the aspects in this book and make a literary review of the current study of this topic. Based on this book, the author will also study the three main aspects of the life of the citizenry stratum of Lin’an, namely commercial activities, recreational activities and folk cultural activities and introduce their holding time and place and summarize their characteristics. In the end, the author will analyze the reasons why the citizenry stratum of Lin’an had such rich activities and its influence on the later generation.
