The southern section of the western Ordos Basin is located in the partition of China east and west two tectonic domains binding site. It has undergone a complex geological history period. The study area are widely distributed Ordovician marine strata. The different layers hydrocarbon source rocks have different characteristics in geochemical and logging of the corresponding features. The object of this paper is the western margin of the southern section of the Ordovician strata of the Ordos Basin. on the basis of previous research. geological conditions of the study area into Tibet to conduct in-depth study. such as lithofacies paleogeography. sedimentary facies characteristics of source rocks. reservoir caprock. Through the comprehensive utilization of outcrops. drilling. logging. etc. lithofacies paleogeography and sedimentary facies characteristics were analyzed. western Ordos Basin of the southern section of the Ordovician strata main types of sedimentary facies were:The tidal flat. the open sea platform. basin facies. carbonate slope facies. terrigenous clastic slope and so on.Take the means of experimental analysis in the evaluation of hydrocarbon source rocks, through the parameters of the optical properties of hydrocarbon source rocks. kerogen carbon isotope. and vitrinite reflectance analysis. comparison. research the type of organic matter. organic matter abundance. the evolution of thermal and other aspects. The results show that the source rocks are mainly distributed in the Middle Ordovician Pingliang in study area. and the rock type is carbonate; the main types of organic matter is Ⅰ-Ⅱ type1; organic matter abundance belonged to the middle-good; the degree of thermal evolution in maturity-over mature stage. Other. carbonate reservoirs of the study area. storage space is secondary dissolution pores. in the second cracks are formed by diagenetic stage and the latter part of the tectonic stress. the cap of the study area the Carboniferous-Permian mudstone regional seals; Followed by dense carbonate rocks that distribute in the next Ordovician Table Mountain group and Ke Limo group has also become a good regional cap.
