The extrusion process is a traditional method for brass tubes, in which continuous casting solid billet is extruded to hollow tube billet firstly and then drawn to tube. However, this process is of high energy consumption, long process and low yield, which is gradually faced with challenges from new short and efficient process technology. The present paper introduced a short process cast-rolling process without extrusion, it has many advantages such as high productivity, low energy consumption and low cost, which is CCR (Continuous casting&Cold rolling) process. The effects of casting temperature, cooling pressure and withdrawing speed on the surface quality and solidification structures were studied, and the defects of hollow billets prepared by horizontal continuous casting method were analyzed. Through constant adjustment and optimization of process parameters, the hollow billets with excellent surface quality and dense solidification structure were successfully produced by horizontal continuous casting.Combining the experiment with numerical simulation, the effects of lubrication condition, pass reduction and feeding during cold rolling on the cold rolling tubes were investigated. The cold pilgering of H65, H80and HA177-2brass tubes can be successfully realized through reducing the feeding, cold processing ratio and enhancing lubrication and cooling. The micro structure, properties, size precision of products and production yield of H65, H80and HA177-2brass tubes that manufactured by extrusion process and CCR process were analyzed and compared in details. The results show that H65, H80and HA177-2brass tubes manufactured by two processes have the similar microstructure and properties, and the product quality meet the demand of the relevant national standards and users; compared with extrusion process, CCR process can improve the comprehensive yield by20-30%and reduce the eccentricity of finished product by4-8%; it can also save the power about300-500degrees/tons. It is indicated that CCR is a short and efficient process for H65, H80and HA177-2brass tube manufacturing and has bright prospects.
