The medical waste is one of the most dangerous wastes in the world, which affects not only the health of citizen but also environment. Therefore, the management of the medical waste is an important research subject by scholars in the world. This paper analyses the production of the medical waste using GIS(Geographical Information System). The location of the medical waste disposal field and management of the medical waste were researched based on GIS.The data of medical waste which produced by hospitals of four counties of Yang Zhou were analyzed by GIS. The trend of change with time and the production of medical waste were researched. The distribution of medical waste in space was revealed, and the relationship between medical waste production and population, and GNP(Gross National Product) was analysed. Finally, it provides a best choice for medical waste collection.Another important application is site selection of medical waste incineration plant. With the overlay analysis, buffer analysis, shortest path analysis and so on, so a reasonable site for medical waste incineration plant was selected.Using GIS of spatial data real-time access, analysis and processing function, the "Dynamic Monitoring and Efficient Management" of medical waste were achieved. By GIS technology the medical waste information database were established. From classification, storage, collection, transportation to final disposal of medical wastes, tracks and updates the database. Finally, the Medical Waste Management Information System (MWMIS) was established, which provides various functions, like data input and output, query, database maintains, etc.
