The body structure of cars have a complex shape of the space surface, and it can not be shown complete with the usual mechanical drawing methods.The methods of traditional cars body are designed by two-dimensional drawings and main model resulting in the long life cycle, which unable to meet the demand with the increasing competition in the market. The preliminary studies of carried out Automobile body design in this thesis. The reverse engineering design of the toy car body on the UG software Point Cloud, and surfaces were reconstructed by imageware software. The CAD model of the toy car body was fabricated through the FDM rapid prototyping machine for the evaluation of product appearance and structure.The primary research work is listed below:(1)Owning to the characteristics of the complex shape surfaces of the toy car body structure, the non-contact laser measurement scanning method was applied to obtain the3D point cloud data.(2) Different filtering methods of the point cloud data were discussed and depeloped by invoking the MatLab curve fitting toolbox with the smooth function to achieve a variety of filtering methods. UG secondary development tools were applied to complete the integration of point cloud filtering module of UG modeling software.(3) Point Cloud software of imageware wad used to complete the surface reconstruction of the toy car body point cloud data.(4) CAD model of the toy car body was built through the FDM rapid prototyping technology to achieve rapid prototyping production for the evaluation of the arational structure and appearance of aesthetics.
