With the extensive use and promotion of energy dissipation structure, the designmethod of structure attached to metal dampers or viscous dampers is more and more mature.It mainly includes objective optimization method, trial calculation method, multiple method,and so on. All these kinds of method above use time history analysis to calculate repeatedlyuntil it meet the performance and economic requirement. It wastes a lot of time.The design method of energy dissipation which is based on the equivalent linearizationtheory avoids repeatedly calculating. It is able to calculate the damping amount of dampersattached to the structure when the target story displacement is set. However, the designmethod only describe the structure attach to one kind of damper, it have not describe how todesign the structure attached to two kinds of dampers at same time. The damping amount ofstructures only with metal dampers and only with viscous dampers can be calculated by theenergy dissipation method based on equivalent linearization theory. According to it, thealternative superposition method and combination superposition method were used todetermine the damping amount of structure with metal and viscous dampers at the samestructure. According to the situation, the design method of energy dissipation structure withmetal dampers and viscous dampers will be proposed based on the design method of energydissipation which was based on the equivalent linearization theory.According to the survey of the form, story, height of buildings by JSCA, the30-story,24-story,18-story and12-story steel frame office structure were chosen as calculationmodels. In order to avoid generating large earthquake response because of the predominantperiod similar to the period of structure, three kinds of artificial waves were selectedincluding ART BCJ wave, ART KOBE wave, ART EL CENTRO wave. Then the calculationmodels were analyzed by nonlinear time history method under these three waves. Based onthe equivalent linearization theory, the damping amount of four kinds of calculation modelsonly with metal dampers was calculated. The damping amount of four kinds of calculationmodels only with viscous dampers was also calculated.Multistory and high-rise steel frame structures always appear shear deformation underearthquake action. The story displacement of lower floors is lager than upper floors. So thedisplacement-related damper (such as metal dampers) can be added to lower floors. Thestructure with which the lower floors have added displacement-related dampers was analyzed by time history analysis of earthquake response. It showed that the relativevelocity of upper floors was obviously lager than the lower floors. So the velocity-relateddamper (such as viscous dampers) can be added to upper floors. According to this idea, thestructure with displacement-related dampers and velocity-related dampers can be got.According to the idea, the design method of structure with metal dampers and viscousdampers has been proposed. The aseismic performance of structure with metal and viscousdampers is contrast to the structure only with metal dampers and only with viscous dampersby SAP2000.It can be indicated form the research that: under the combination of different structuresand different earthquakes, the response values of structures only with metal dampers aresometimes lager than the structures only with viscous dampers, and sometimes smaller thanthe structures only with viscous dampers. However, the response values of the structure withmetal and viscous dampers are between them. The response values of some structures withmetal and viscous dampers are the smallest. In most situations, the acceleration value ofstructure with viscous dampers is the smallest. The acceleration value of structure withmetal and viscous dampers is similar to it. So the usage amount of metal dampers can beincrease and the usage amount of viscous dampers can be reduced. It also achieves goodaseismic performance and improves the economic indicators. The structure with metal andviscous dampers is economic compared to the structure only with viscous dampers, and ithas better aseismic performance compared to the structure only with metal dampers.
