Building Facade Design Method Based On The Street Environment Research

With the development of social economy and human civilization, urban people are paying more attention to the public space in their daily lives. People expect to take the urban development under control holistically by urban design, beside, use the elevation of buildings to enrich city image, thereby creating a quality living environment. However, various elements are leading to more and more problems, for instance, variance of urban structure cannot match human scale, mono-buildings are disjointed from their surroundings, the entireness and continuity of streets is broken etc. Urban design and architectural design are not related and hard to be combined because of the obvious difference of scale。Thus, something needs to be explored as an intermedium to contact the two kinds of design, also is closely associated with people’s life. The answer is the streets in city.Streets play a significant role in the structure of urban transportation system, and undoubtedly, they are the main open space for outdoor activities. Buildings are one important element of urban streets for the street identity and street order are directly influenced by building elevation. Both streets and buildings serve for people. Specifically, people live, work, shopping etc. inside of buildings while walk, communicate, relax on streets. The indoor and outdoor transition is established by architecture elevation which is the periphery of architecture also the inner surface of streets. As the most proper intermedium, streets bridge urban design and architectural design. Therefore, to achieve the conjunction between buildings and street, discuss the design elevation method which based on street is an important process.The main content in this article is established by referencing urban design theories, focusing on architectural elevation, street environment, people’s activities and the relation between the three. Besides, dual function of building elevation will be analyzed and the principles in the design of building elevation will be explored, finally proposing a concept that use architecture builds street environment and the detailed method in building elevation design.
