With the fast development of the modern application, especial in the militaryairplane and radar situation, new requirements have been raised for the high voltagefilm capacitors. The high voltage capacitors which used to be impregnated with liquid(Oil, wax, etc.) are now directed into the solid-impregnation, because the liquidimpregnated into the capacitors may leak with the time running. And those leaked liquidor the liquid come with the shell cracked will pollute the environment, even damage thewhole working system, which is complete unacceptable for the special applicationsituation, like military equipment or the clean environment required situation. So thecapacitors which are impregnated with liquid cannot be used in those situations, butonly such like the transformer substation situation. Meanwhile those special applicationsituations have very urgent demands for the new solid-impregnation high voltage filmcapacitors, and new requirement for the design of the high voltage film capacitors andthe selection of the solid-impregnated material.As the special application situation, there are many particularity requirements for thenew solid-impregnation high voltage film capacitors, like the temperature impact,high-low temperature storage and1,000hours life test and high temperature adaptabilityand volume-temperature vary rate, etc.For the high voltage application, like10kV working voltage, and the limitedvolume, the capacitors are mostly working on the high-point; the impregnated materialshall not have any bad impact on the capacitor and during the manufactory process also.This paper analyze the structure, design, working procedure of the high voltagecapacitor; the selection of the impregnated material and optimize of the impregnateprocess. By accumulating the test data, this paper analyzes how the impregnatedmaterial impacts the working voltage, high temperature life of the capacitor and givesthe following conclusion:1. Analysis of the impregnated material selection based on the differentworking voltage;2. Analysis how the impregnated material and its impregnate process impact the performance of the capacitor;3. Give the suggested impregnated material selection, according to theworking voltage and environment.
