With the rapid development of economy and the inceasingly growth of the building needs, the underground engineering construction gradually increases and shield tunneling machine in the underground rail and tunnel projects has been widely used. At the same time, the shield cutter wear has become a key factor affecting the shield construction quality and schedule. If the cutter is not promptly replaced after the wear failure, it not only increases the difficulty of the cutter replacement, but also affects the engineering progress. This paper, based on substantial literature, combined with engineering practice, establishes the shield cutter wear prediction models as the key issues to solve. The content of the paper is as follows:(1) This paper summarizes the shield disc cutter and scraper wear failure modes, analyzes the corresponding reason of the cutter wear failure and the main form of the cutter wear. The abrasive wear model of the shield cutter is established, the three-dimensional numerical simulation of the abrasive wear process of the shield cutter is analyzed and the shield cutter wear mechanism is studied.(2) The appropriate force prediction models of disc cutter and scraper are selected in the existing rock breaking mechanical models of shield cutter, and the motion laws of shield disc cutter and scraper are analyzed and the kinematic equations of shield disc cutter and scraper are established.(3) Based on the shield cutter wear mechanism, considering the effect of structural parameters, geological parameters, cutting parameters and other factors of the shield cutter, the shield cutter wear prediction models are established.(4) The rock breaking experiment of disc cutter is carried on in the shield rotative cutting test platform, which verifies the kinematic trajectory of the rock particles at the side of the disc cutter and the sliding phenomenon generated in the rock breaking process of the shield disc cutter. At the same time, the research and measurement of the cutter wear loss in the engineering projects are done, and the corresponding wear status is obtained, which can provide the engineering verification for the established shield cutter wear prediction models.
