Connections design is very important in the design of steel structures. The design of steel structures connections will directly affect the quality and expense of steel structures, so it is significant to research connections design.The connection methods of steel structures include weld connections, bolts connections and high-strength bolts connections. According to force and deformation characteristics, the connections can be divided into three categories:rigid connections, hinge connections and semi-rigid connections. The semi-rigid connections can shorten the construction period, reduce management costs, and produce good economic benefits. But the actual project of semi-rigid connections steel framework is still few. Especially China is bare of actual project of semi-rigid connections steel framework, so it is significant to research the semi-rigid connections.In the process of establishing and modifying steel structures design code (GB50017-2003), our designers have referred to large experiences at home and abroad and foreign steel codes, such as the United States, Japan and other countries. Each steel structure design code has its own features. As a common international code, American steel structure design code is usually required to be used in international projects tenders. How to use the code of the United States, how to understand it deeply, what differences exist between in Chinese code and American code and the reasons for these differences, and how to adopt advantages and avoid weaknesses, these are the problems that designers care for and that need to be solved in projects.In this thesis, the two latest steel structures design codes are selected:the Chinese GB50017-2003《Steel Structures Design Code》,and the American ANSI/AISC360-10《Specification for Structural Steel Buildings》.Connections design problems in these two codes are researched and analyzed, containing structure requirements and calculation methods of weld connections, bolts connections and high-strength bolts connections, design methods of extend end plate connections in the semi-rigid steel frame connections. The main differences of connections design between these two codes are gotten to obtain some conclusions beneficial to projects, which can provide references for the future revision of the steel structures design code.
