With the development of social economy, the conditions of energy and environmentbecome increasingly serious. Energy conservation and emission reduction turn into thedirection of auto industry development. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) integratedthe advantages of EV and HEV, and it has broad development prospects.School bus is suitable for the R&D of PHEV as which has the regular driving cycle, wide chassis space and large vehicle quality. As a part of the project of Beijing municipaleducation commission-“R&D and application of the key technology on Plug-in hybridelectric school bus”, some works about modeling, simulation, experimental analysis andperformance evaluation were conducted. The driving mode and control strategy of PHEV were summarized, and the hybridcontrol strategy was analyzed. Based on the driving cycle and dynamic index, theparameters of power train were matched. On basis of Matlab/Simulink software, a forwardsimulation model was established. The modeling method is based on the test data and theemphasis is on the inputs and outputs.Driving cycle test of the vehicle and performance test of selected motor wereconducted, and the test data was analyzed. The validity of the modeling method wasverified by comparing the results of simulation with driving cycle test.Series and parallel forms of HEV and PHEV were established respectively, and themodels were simulated in constant speed cycle, Chinese typical city cycle and Manhattandriving cycle. The simulation result was analyzed and the performance of hybrid electricpower train was evaluated. It should be pay more attention to the driving cycle researchduring the design and development of hybrid electric power train, because different drivingcycles may have great influence on the performance. The research achievement of this thesis may provide reference for the further R&D ofthe project and PHEV technology.
