Background:First-line therapeutic regimes of advanced Non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) has became mature gradually, and the clinical efficacy has reached a plateau,It is difficult to prolong the survival time(ST) for advanced NSCLC patients in the circumstances; To improve efficacy and prolong survival time, maintenance therapy is proposed by oncologists to apply in NSCLC patients, which is based on the successful maintenance therapy pattern of Hematologic Neoplasm; Those new chemotherapeutic agents with mild untoward reaction and better tolerance such as Alimita, Docetaxol have already proven to be effective in maintenance therapy among advanced NSCLC patients, and also those molecular targeted agents such as Erlotinib; Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)has been used to treat malignancies for several years, which can stabilize tumor locus for a long time and improve Quality of Life(QOL) of patients; So TCM is supposed to have better perspective on maintenance therapy. Objective:The major purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and superiority of TCM in Maintenance therapy by retrospective study on progression free time, survival time and QOL of advanced NSCLC patients; and also to explore the relative factors associated with efficacy of TCM maintenance therapy;Method:The clinical cases were deviated from outpatient and inpatient of Oncology department, Guang’anmen Hospital. According to inclusion and exclusion standards, those patients that met criteria were classified into two groups:maintenance treatment with TCM group and control group in accordance with whether TCM was applied or not and its intensity. The clinical data was collected and recorded in the way of retrospective study, which included PFS、OS、QOL(KPS、symptom、weight) of patients; Then the efficacy and relative factors were explored. The data was analyzed by SPSS statistical software.Results:66cases were collected in this study, with36cases in treatment group and30control group. In the comparison of base line data, there were no significant difference between two groups in age、gender、smoking、complication、tumor location、stage、 histology、cycles and efficacy of fist-line chemotherapy except chemotherapy regimes. In the end of research, the results revealed that there was significant difference between two groups in median PFS,(5.6M VS3M,p=0.014);In MST, the results were22M and15M for TCM treatment group and control group respectively, but there was insignificant difference; And in the QOL of patients, TCM treatment group markedly improved patients’symptoms, KPS and weight compared with control group with significant statistical difference(P<0.01).By Logistic regression analysis, it indicated that treatment policy of TCM was related with efficacy of TCM maintenance, which revealed those who accepted orally and intravenous injection of Chinese Herbs could arrived at better PFS、OS and QOL.Conclusion:Maintenance therapy with TCM can prolong PFS and improve QOL of advanced NSCLC patients whose neoplasm were controlled after first-line Chemotherapy, and it also has the tendency to prolong OS of patients. Besides, TCM treatment intensity is evidently associated with efficacy of TCM maintenance therapy.
