Cancer is a serious disease in the worldwide. In the recent years, the morbidity and mortality of lung cancer are increased significantly.70%to 80%of lung cancer is non-small lung cancer, most patients may have no clinical manifestations in early stage and in the time of positive diagnostic,70% of patients were in advanced stage. Therefore, the main therapies for patients in this stage are radiotherapy, chemotherapy,Traditional Chinese Medicine and immunotherapy, etc. How to unify the existing treatment method, enhance the curative effect by the greatest degree, improve symptoms and the quality of life while reduce the toxic and adverse reaction is the present research popular topic. The Chinese traditional medicine had a long history of evolution in the prevention and the therapy of cancer disease.Under the supervisory of Prof.Lin Li Zhu,we have investigated the utilization of He Chan Pian(HCP) modified combining with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer.1.Objects of study:①Estimation of treatment efficacy after combined administration of HCP and Chemotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer.②Evaluation of the reduction action of the side effects of chemotherapy when combined with HCP.③Observation the adverse effects of HCP in the treatment.2.Method:40 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer were randomly divided into two groups:treatment group(TG):20 patients and control group(CG):20 patients. In the TG group, patients received the administration of HCP(6~# Tid)+chemotherapy. In the CG group, patients received chemotherapy alone. Estimation of the results therapeutic effects and reduction of side effects of chemotherapy were compared between the two groups after 2 courses of treament, based on following criteria:therapeutic status of the patients, clinical symptoms, hematological changes, liver and kidney functions, quality of life and the tumor remission.3.Results:3.1 There were no significantly differences between patients of two groups: Patients average age:TG:57.21,CG:58.08.non significative(NS),(P>0.05).Sex male/female:TG=14/6,CG=16/4,(P>0.05).Cancer stagingⅢa,Ⅲb,Ⅳ: TG=2,2,16;CG=1,4,15,corresponding,(P>0.05).There were also no differences in the clinical symptoms score, the pathological type, metastatic sites, the treatment before study and the chemotherapy regimen in this study,(p>0.05).3.2.Therapeutic effects:3.2.1.Therapeutic status of the patients:Some cases both in two groups could not be completed as planned in two courses of treatment.15 and 11 patients in the TG and CG had been treated completely respectively. The incidence of deletion in the TG was much lower than that in the CG but No statistically significant difference,(P>0.05)3.2.2 Comparison of tumor remission stability:The response rate(CR+PR)in the TG and the CG was 46.6%and 45.5%,respectively(P>0.05).Stable rate (CR+PR+MR+SD)in TG(86.6%)were higher than those in CG(63.6%)with no significant difference(P>0.05).3.2.3 Quality of life:The life quality was evaluated with Karnofsky score and weigh changes, the difference in both groups was significantly(P<0.05). The difference score of Karnofsky after the treatment course was no statistics significance(p>0.05),but after 2 course, the score increased in TG while decreased in CG with statistics significance(p<0.05).3.2.3The clinical symptoms, such as cough, hemoptysis, angina pectoris, fever were improved in both TG and CG.Especially,There were more improvement in TG than in CG after 2 treatment courses(p<0.05).3.2.5 Tumor marker CEA:The descent range of the marker CEA in TG was a significant difference than that in CG(P<0.05).3.3 Side effects:There were quantity reductions of RBC,WBC,Hb and Bpc after therapy in both groups,furthermore,gradeⅢ-Ⅳleukopenia in the CG group was significantly(P<0.05).In TG group, the change of Liver and Kidney functions were not severe as in CG group. 3.4 Adverse effects of HCP in the treatment:Some patients had gastrointestinal reaction when received the administration of HCP.The reaction might be discomfortable in gastric area, nausea, abdominal distension and so on.The adverse effects were judged "probably concerning" on the basis of evaluation and determination of ADR causation, and the severity degree was mild.Relief could be obtained according to reduce medicine taking of HCP or stop treatment and after symptomatic treatment.2 cases who had Hypertension and whose ECG showed "normal" before treatment complained about palpitation, precordial distress, and then, the ECG showed atrial fibrillation and artril flutter.Administration of amidoaron or propafenone could be recovered.4.Conclusions①Therapeutic effects in the remission rate of tumor was not significantly differentiated, but the quality of life and clinical symptoms' improvement in the TG group was veritable better.②HCP has the ability to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, especially decreasing myelosuppression③Patients would develope gastrointestinal reaction with different degrees when administrating HCP.For the patients who had Hypertension with potential cardial function damaged, adverse effects such as arrhythmia may be occurred,It should bring to high attention.
