| In China the incidence of lung cancer is rather high, and its male patients are more than female ones. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer(NSCLC) account for80%of all lung cancer patients, more than half of which are elderly patients. Although current modern medical treatment has made great progress, cancer also cannot effect a radical cure; the most old patients’body circumstance is poor, and often have other complications, what is more, western medicine treatments with the characteristic of high strength, large doses, long period makes weaker constitution of elderly patients, therefore, the life quality and survival time of elderly patients has gained wide attention. Radiation therapy is an effective means of clinical treatment of cancer, its side effects are relatively light, and it puts up good tolerance, but as a fault it cann’t solve the problem of tumor metastasis.Meanwhile, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is playing a more important role in the auxiliary treatment of western medicine today. TCM is good at making treatment methods based on syndrome differentiation to coordinate the function of viscera and strengthen immune system. The standardization and normalization of traditional Chinese medicine pharmaceutical experiment model is converging the international level. Elemene Emulsion, an ant i tumor drug extracted from zedoary, has been extensively used in clinical practice.According to TCM,zedoary relieves stagnant Qi and promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis. It proves to not only inhibit tumor growth, and demonstrates evident curative effect without apparent adverse reactions, still increase the sensitivity of the radiation treatment.The combination of Elemene Emulsion Injection together with radiotherapy, can not only give consideration to both the general and local curative effect, and reduce adverse reactions of the tumor treatment; it can also get complementary advantages to improve the treatment of patients with cancer treatment effect and the quality of life. In this study, we adopt the randomized control method to validates the effect of combination treatment in improving therapeutic effect and life quality, extending their life span, and prevent metastasis in a short timeObjective:to observe the clinical curative effect of combination of Elemene Emulsion and radiotherapy of the elderly non-small cell lung cancer treatment in clinical symptoms, physical condition, tumor size, the quality of life, and the survival time.Methods:we adopt the randomized control method by means of random table, following to the diagnosis criteria, into line, exclusion,abscisic criteria, to divide the clinical cases into two groups:trial group and control group. Two groups both recieve radiation therapy for pulmonary lesions as basic treatment, ordinary radiation or accurate radiotherapy wi th60-70Gy dosage, but the trial group is also provided with Elemene Injection (400mg/day, once a day,4weeks), while the control group did not accept any of the intervention of TCM. Watch the difference of two sets of patients in the chest lesion changes, distant metastasis, tumor progression time, survival time and quality of life.Results:During our research time (October2010to March2012), we collect53cases in total, of which50cases are effective, including the control group25cases, the trial group25cases. As to evaluation of tumors post treatment, the effective rate is76%in trial group while the control group60%treatment group was superior to control group, there is significant difference (P<0.05). As to KPS, the effective rate is28%in trial group whi le the control group8%. treatment group was superior to control group, but the two groups of comparisons is no statistical difference (P>0.05). As to the improvement of overall symptoms before and after treatment, treatment group was better than control group with significant difference (P<0.05), when it comes to each symptoms,such sa cough, Hemoptysis, chest distress,chest pain, hoarseness and difficulty swallowing, there is no significant difference (P>0.05). Tumor markers numerical determination:treatment group decreases an average of18.89%±18.754%; the control group to decrease an average of14.32%±10.347%, after statistical analysis, there is no statistical difference (P>0.05).As to weight improvement, the improvement rate is20%in treatment group and control group is0%, and the statistical analysis shows significant difference (P<0.05).About adverse reactions, through clinical research statistics analysis, we can conclude that two groups has no signif icant difference (P>0.05) in the incidence of radioactive pneumonia, radioactive esophagitis, hemoglobin, platelets, white blood cell droping rate.Conclusion:1. Compared to pure radiotherapy, Elemene Injection with radiotherapy proves to decrease tumor size evidently.2. Compared to pure radiotherapy, Elemene Injection with radiotherapy proves to effectively improve the clinical symptoms of patients.3. Compared to pure radiotherapy, Elemene Injection with radiotherapy proves to increase weight and improve general condition.4. Compared to pure radiotherapy,Elemene Injection with radiotherapy proves not to increase the incidence of aderse eents. |
