ObjectiveThe objective of this clinical research is to evaluate and observe the immediate clinical effects of employing the "Calm Chong, descend rebellious qi, raise Yin" method of acupuncture on60patients with essential hypertension, using method of self-compare. This study will provide new clinical methods and techniques for treating hypertension.Method60cases of essential hypertensive patients were enrolled into a clinical research group. The group was treated with the "Calm Chong, descend rebellious liver qi, raise Yin" method of acupuncture; this method employed the following needling techniques:using sedation method stimulated both Tai Chong acupoints, sedation method stimulated Bai Hui acupoint, tonified method stimulated both San Yin Jiao acupoints, manipulated needle of every acupoint60times per minute,1minute each, left needles in for20minutes. Treatment was given1time per week for3weeks. Blood pressure and heart rate were measured before and immediately after treatment, also at5min,10min,15min and30min after treatment. During the fourth week there was no treatment given, resting comparison was made, the blood pressure and heart rate were measured at the same time intervals, the effect of lowering blood pressure and symptomatic improvements were analyzed.ResultsComparing the results of the patients before, after treatment and at rest, for systolic and diastolic pressure (P<0.05), we found there was a significant difference in each patient group. After acupuncture treatment, the systolic and diastolic pressure lowered (P<0.05), there was a significant difference. After resting, the systolic pressure showed a significant difference (P<0.05) but diastolic pressure did not show as much of a significant difference (P>0.05).For the patients undergoing acupuncture treatment, immediately after needling, the diastolic pressure elevated and during the acupuncture treatment the diastolic pressure lowered, at0-15minutes the change in diastolic pressure was more significant, and at15-30minutes the diastolic pressure became stable. For resting patients, the diastolic pressure lowered and remained stable at rest. For the patients undergoing acupuncture treatment, immediately after needling, the systolic pressure was elevated and during the acupuncture treatment lowered, at0-15minutes the change was more significant, at15-30minutes the systolic pressure became stable. At rest, the systolic pressure lowered and remained stable during all treatments where patients were at rest.ConclusionThe efficacy of the "Calm Chong, descend rebellious liver qi, raise Yin" method of acupuncture to lower blood pressure during an acupuncture treatment is88.33%.Blood pressure:①Systolic and diastolic pressure both lowered after acupuncture treatment.②For the patients undergoing acupuncture treatment, immediately after acupuncture the systolic and diastolic pressure elevated and lowered during the acupuncture treatment, at0-15minutes the change is more significant, and at15-30minutes became stable.Pulse:①After the treatment pulse rate was lowered②For the patients during acupuncture treatment, immediately after treatment pulse rate increased and lowered during the acupuncture treatment, at0-15minutes the change is more significant, and during15-30minutes lowered and became more stable.Symptoms:there was significant improvement of the following symptoms:dizziness, tinnitus, dryness and bitter taste in mouth, headache, anger and bad temper, red face and eyes, and pain in lower back. There was no improvement for the following symptoms:stiffness in neck, pressure in chest, constipation, red urine and night urination.
