The study of witchcraft is an important part of Anthropology,which has both crucial research value and practical significance. Asone form of witchcarft belief," Dang-Jian stele" is an important co-mponent of Meishan religion and Meishan culture. The Migrantsfrom Xinhua and Zhonghua of Hunan brought advanced productiontechnologies and witchcarft belief systems to the northern Guilin ofGuangxi. In this specific cultural ecological backgroud, Pingzhaivillage, which is located at Chetian ethnic Yao township, Ziyuancounty of Guangxi, inherits and develops the traditional belife of"Dang-Jian stele", even if the function of Meishan religion has beenneglected consciously or unconsciously, villagers still have stronginterest on setting up "Dang-Jian stele"."Dang-Jian stele" is like the key to witchcraft belief, attractingus to explore in the world of witchcraft. This paper adopts three mainethnographic research methods. Ethnographic field work,documentary research method and Comparative study is also one ofmain ethnographical methods.On the fundation of introducing thebasic knowledges of "Dang-Jian stele", such as its materials, formsand legislation, this paper mainly discusses the strong psychic forceand cultural implication of "Dang-Jian stele", which includes thepractice process of primitive religion and Meishan religion ritual.The author primarily explains the function of "Dang-Jian stele" inlocal rural community, discusses the social role of the man buildingthe stele, analyses the reasons for the existence, changes and fade-outof "Dang-Jian stele".This research does not aim at discussing whether the fate of thechild will be changed after setting up the "Dang-Jian stele", norattracting people’s attention to compelete, correct and pack the ritual.The purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on the rationality ofthe exsistence of "Dang-Jian stele", the internal dynamicas of islasting development, its changes and cultural function by doing anethnographic field work on the religion belief system of local ruralcommunities.
