No doubt there are many difficulties facing the translator of Chinese cultural works. Some of these difficulties are often encountered in the translation of Chinese poetry, Chinese ancient scripts, and literary metaphors, etc. In translating The Chinese Humor, I met similar challenges. This article will focus its discussion on some of the strategies I employed in translating those keywords in The Chinese Humor, which are intensely contextualized in Chinese culture. Besides, literary allusions, both Chinese and foreign, obtaining in The Chinese Humor, also pose as a big challenge I must meet. |
