Lin Geng Literary Thought Research

As one of Tsinghua four swordsmen，Lin Geng, is a poet, is a scholar. His life issimple and rich, not only in the new poetry, tang poetry, the classical novel, literature,and other fields have achievements，but also he displayed his talent from twenty yearsold and carried out academic research to ninety years old. The study about Lin Geng’sacademic thought has never been out of school vision, although Lin Geng neverpublished a system literary thought. He studied so many fields of the literary and gotachievements, it just illustrated that Lin Geng’s thought of literature and art is rich andvaluable. This paper made a whole, careful analysis and study on Lin Geng’s thoughtof literature and art from the perspective of literature and art theory.Based on the study LinGeng monographs and related papers, from the historicaldimension to grasp the development and change of the LinGeng literary thought, andby method of comparison, integration and promotion, then it found LinGeng literarythought logic structure; From the view of internal logic to examine the existence ofLin Geng literary thought.The first part is to analyze the origin of Lin Geng’s thought on literature and art.The bud and development of Lin Geng literary and artistic thought deeply affected bythe May Fourth social trend of thought and his teachers Wen Yiduo, Zhu Ziqing et al;the deep family study history gave the initially fertile soil of Lin Geng academic’sdevelopment and the unique academic experience broadened his study field.The second part analyzes Lin Geng’s literary thought from the four parts of themethodology, literary history, poetics and the novel view. Lin Geng adopted literatureas a standard research perspective and modern vision in his academic research ; thismakes his academic research can be throughout in many fields, and its thinking wayof poetic logic makes its study be full of sentimental language and ideas.The most prominent is Lin Geng’s view of literary history in his literature historystudy, he put the literature development as a process full of vitality, and divided thedevelopment of the whole ancient literature into the "Poor Poets Literature" and"Citizen Literature" two innovative concepts; he thought the traditional poetry Lyric as the center of the whole development of literature, and folk literature and oralliterature was the continuous power to promote development of literature; he took"creativity" as the selection standard material selection in the history of literature.The concept of the art of poetry includes poetic theory, the songs of Chu theory,theory of Tang poetry and new poem four parts, Lin Geng in the poetic theorybelieved that poetry was "the emotions of life", and form of poetry is necessary butnot the decisive factor and poetry language has ontological meaning, based on this healso put forward the concept of poetic language. Putting the songs of Chu as keystarting point of classical poetry poetic especially the research for "xi" is the mostinnovative discovery of the the songs of Chu theory. In "Pope tang poetry view" onthe next, he put forward "tang poetry meteorology" and "young spirit" which are themost two distinctive academic concepts in tang poetry theory, the proposed of "clothsense" is not only a significant contribution to the study of Li Bai, but also is theembodiment of the poet tasting thought, the poetry appreciation is not flowing into thenormal mode, but full of his own opinion. The idea of new poetry is put forward onthe basis of the new poetry creation with obvious traces of the practice; He consideredthe free verse had liberation, but the metrical poetry was the future of new poetry, henot only put forward some principles but also attempted to write new metrical poetrymainly by "nine word poem".The novel concept to some extent riches on the basis of its literary historywriting, he made a comment on "Journey to the West"," the Water Margin"," Romanceof the Three Kingdoms" and other important classical novels through the "verticallogic", "horizontal comparison" and "reality factor" three dimensions. And theanalyses of fairy tale spirit and the position of the saga in "Journey to the West" andthe ideal analysis of "the Water Margin"all came on the basis of this critical method.The third part as the peroration mainly analysis the value, shortage andcontemporary significance of Lin Geng’s thought on literature and art. And manytheories proposed by Lin Geng’ have been recognized by modern academia, but hispoetic logic of metaphor in mixed and new poetical construction principles ofrationality remains debatable. However, Lin Geng’s academic thought and spirit still has important value.
