Dazu Grottoes Guanyin Statue Arts Research

The Dazu is an another important place for the Buddhist Cave Temples after Dunhuang, Yungang and Longmen Grottoes, whose Guanyin sculptures are more superb that other caves. This paper will focuse on the research to the arts of Guanyin statues in Dazu stone carvings. The first part analyzes the political, economic and cultural background during the course of making Guanyin statues. The second part gives an analysis to the statues of Avalokitesvara in time sequence firstly, and then a comparative research in general, followed by the research to Fushu(several) Guaiyin and Guanyin dizang hekan(Guanyin Bodhisattva and Kitigarbhaon are carved together in one cave) of Dazu, the comparative anlysis to Guanyin sculptures that appear in the other grottos in the same way and a research to the Guanyin sculptures in dankanfa cave thar have one Guanyin scuptures). Finally, the paper summarizes the kanku(shrine)changes, Guanyin’s form and its sculpting variation of Dazu Guayin sculptures on the basis of previous research. The last part, the paper not only anlyzes the secularized beauty og Guanyin Scluptures during a particular period, but also explores its reasons and performance.
