Chinese-english Of Consecutive Interpretation: With The Code

With the development of globalization, China’s foreign exchanges with othercountries pace up, and interpretation plays a significant role in this process.Meanwhile, the frequent foreign exchange also has high demands on interpretation.The author finds that there are mainly two obstacles in consecutive Chinese-Englishinterpretation: the obstacle from the difference of culture and mode of thinking andthe obstacle from the difference of language performance. In order to sum up thegeneral strategies in handling the above obstacles, the author chooses two exercises,namely the consecutive interpretation on Premier Wen’s speech at CambridgeUniversity and Harvard University, makes comparison between the author’s versionand the official version, fully explains the guiding principles in consecutiveChinese-English interpretation under the guidance of Sense-based Theory andconventionality of interpretation. Consecutive Chinese-English interpretation is arecreation activity on the basis of source language, an interpreter should notice his orher subject status and the fundamental purpose of interpretation so as to realize theunity of recreation and conventionality. Finally, the author summarizes the strategiesin dealing with the two obstacles in consecutive Chinese-English interpretation so asto guide the interpretation practice in the future.
