In1945, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, China has cometo a crossroads. This is a decisive moment between the KMT and the CPC,is also the crossroads of the various social forces in China.U.S. policy toward China affect Chinese political direction. Fromtheir own interests, the United States chose to support the KMT governmentto establish a pro-American regime. But Chiang Kai-shek’s autocraticbecome a major obstacle to implementation of the established strategy,so the United States of America in addition to hope that the Communistgive up arms through mediation, the United States has all along been tofight for the support of another important political forces in China-the Third Force, so as to improve the bad image of the KMT government andsave the upcoming collapse of Chiang Kai-shek regime by the decorationof freedom and democracy.After the war, the Third Force of China rises rapidly and becomes themost important weight in the KMT-CPC balance. They are mainly composedby the well-known intellectuals and the business community in a neutral,objective image about China’s vast middle class public opinion wind. Theirconstantly changing with the development of the current situation. TheThird Force to occupy China’s third largest party status initially theUnited States into China is welcome and highly anticipated; then graduallyevolved into the United States questioned and criticized, but still hasa fantasy; until forced to dissolve, they really understand the natureof U.S. policy toward China duty-bound and turn to a new democratic road.Exist as an independent individual, The New Third Force-liberalintellectuals, knows the real intention of the United States in the earlypostwar period. Although these liberal intellectuals love in America,strong nationalist sentiments dominate their merciless pen has done to expose and criticize the United States; they hate the interference of theUnited States and did not become the United States hope that the KMT thestraw of the regime; In the end, they also accepted the change of regimein China.The U.S.’s policy to the Third Force ultimately failed, and the thirdis also flooded the forward trend of the times.Intellectuals and the United States is a historical issue, but alsothe reality of the problem.
