The Country of the Pointed Firs is one of the most celebrated novels of Sarah Orne Jewett, an outstanding woman of letters in the gallery of American literature. This novel is a good representative of eco-feminism. Recently this novel has become a canon and has been studied from diversified aspects.This thesis means to interpret The Country of the Pointed Firs from Eco-feminism perspective. In China, eco-feminism is still in discovery stage both in theory and practice, and the researches about The Country of the Pointed Firs are rather rare, neither complete nor systematic. This thesis illustrates Jewett’s eco-feminism in The Country of the Pointed Firs so as to make the readers comprehend the spirit of eco-feminism, at the same time making as a reference for further deep and more valuable researches in eco-feminism.The thesis is consisted of five parts, the preclude part briefly introduces the life and works of Sarah Orne Jewett, and makes a concise introduction to the research of The Country of the Pointed Firs both home and abroad. The first chapter depicts the origin and development of eco-ferrinism and mentions about some schools and advocates of this theory. The second chapter expresses eco-feminist’s Nature view and its duplicate perspective on Nature. The third chapter shows readers the ideal social state of eco-feminism. In the end, the conclusion part summarizes the contents and construction of the thesis, and discusses the thesis topic in a deeper sense.
