The Mongolian race is one of the minorities in the northern part of China and "Mongolia" was the name of one of the tribes in that placeoriginally. It became a new ethnic community gradually as the tribe leading by Genghis khan conquered the other tribes in13th century. The name of the tribe turned out to be the name of the race. The Mongolian depends on graziery a lot. In addition, manufacture and planting are indispensible for them. The Mongolians are good at singing and dancing and what fascinates us most is their ballad including Chang Diao and Duan Diao. Duan Diao is always short in length, clear in content and well-proportioned in structure. Moreover, simple in style and less decoration in melody are the other two advantages of it. When we listen to Duan Diao ballad, we can not only make a good acquisition of a moving story, but also have a deep feeling of its melody as Tuoqiang and Chenqiang are regularly seen at the end of every piece. So the perfect combination of narration and lyric prose becomes an outstanding merit of it. And Chang Diao, with bold and unconstrained singing style of the people in grassland, the most representative ballad of Mongolian race, is constantly sung while grazing, or in the feast, wedding, even in Nadam Fair. It is melodious in tune, leisurely in rhythm, grand and magnificent in singing style. This thesis is exactly the one on Chang Diao ballad. As we all know, Mongolian is a race on the horse. And Chang Diao ballad transferred generation by generation. It came from the depth of their heart, filled their daily life. The melodious and deep sound of Matouqin, main instrument of Mongolian, can not only perfectly accompany the song, but also make it more beautiful. Chang Diao ballad, with outstanding grazing culture and bright singing style, tells us a story about the perception towards civilization, custom, morality, philosophy and art of Mongolians. So it is always called "The Living Fossil of Grassland". And in November25th2005in Paris,“Mongolian Chang Diao Ballad”, applied by China and Mongolia cooperatively, was recognized by the UNESCO the” Humanity oral and non-material inheritance representative works”.
