Majiayao Culture is the remains of the Later Yangshao Era in Gansu and Qinghai Region. Its origin has been concerned by the academia for a long time.Generally speaking, most of the researchers believes that Majiayao Culture derived from "the Shilingxia Type" which derived from the Middle Yangshao Culture. Not only the discovered sites of the Prior MajiayaoCulture are small in quanlity, but also in some areas they are not excavated by archaeologists by now.As all of these reasons, the further research about the Majiayao Culture is delayed.In2010,the Mogou site was excavated by Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Research Center of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology in Northwest University. About700square metres was excavated and lots of relics were unearthed.Beyond that,Mogou site is located in the upper reaches of Taohe river. All of these factors have very important enlightening significance for the research about the prior Majiayao Cuoture, such as its characteristics and distribution range.Based on the typological study of the unearthed pottery and painted pottery,we divide the remains into two stages of development:the earlier stage and the later stage. After that we will do some research about the Prior Majiayao Culture.
