Tomas Hardy created with his deep emotion of his hometown,Margaret created the took ten years. Tomas Hardy, who believes ingate and Margaret, who believes in creation in life, but both createdmoving life tragedy with different type、 different purpose. Hardy is anEnglish novelist and poet, Margaret is an American writer; Tess is anEnglish country’s normal girl, but Miss Scarlett is an American noble. But Ithink: classic is classic. Both of them are important classical works inliterary history. Both of them show us the grateful experience of life. This essay plans to start from the angel of the connection withand. To understand their life tragedy, and explore the enlightenmentabout life. This essay departed into three chapters:“the tragedyanalysis about the hero of two novels”;“the comparing abouttragedy’s reason of Tess and Scarlett”;“The exploration of the twonovel’s tragedy meaning”, including introduction and epilogue, totallyfive parts.Introduction conclude the research situation about and, andalso Hardy and Mitchell. Separated into foreign and China two parts. The research in China and abroad are all many about. No mattersomebody say it’s only a popular fiction, it’s obvious that this workchanged Mitchell’s position in world literature. But Chinese researchabout it still simple. The understanding of classical work need widepeople to join in Western research about Hardy more than China, theproof of his life more believable, such as Fischer, Peter Vodson, MackleMillgate, Rosemary Morgan, they study from Hardy’s main work tosecondary work, and use more flexible ways. The introduction analyzethe nowadays’ situation of research, and on the basic of materials inthe past, I create something to use this topic “The life tragedy cross thespace and time.” Chapter One discuss the tragedy of Tess and Scarlett. First analyzethe figures of them, then compare and conclude the outside characterand inside character of them.Chapter Two analyze the reasons about the tragedy of Tess andScarlett. From the outside (including social times, family environment, and their lovers’ power), and inside mainly about their characters, andanother point is that they both be involved in complex relationships ofthree people. These are all the same reasons of their tragedy.Chapter Three about the exploration of their tragedy’s meaning. From the angel of literature about life tragedy, the same meaning andreason of the two hero’tragedy, and the difference, to conclude theenlightenment to avoid tragedy in real life. The epilogue concludes the essay, and Tess and Scarlett’s tragedy, and also concludes the common meaning of life tragedy in literaryhistory. At the same time points the flaw in essay, hoping to be proveddeeply.
