Women play an important role in the process of human society.Investigation of the modern women, especially Shanghai womenproved this point. Modern society is permeated with change and theold-fashioned conflict. Though social norms had been establishedgradually, the old traditional morality is still strong. As the representativeof the struggle between old and new, women issues has becomeincreasingly prominent in this period.During the development of Chinese women, modern women is in astate of inherit the pass and usher in the future. Shanghai women hasbeen the collection of traditional and modern. On the one hand, bythe shackles of the traditional ethical thinking, they still live under theshadow of the sexist; on the other hand, social transformation madethe women self-consciousness, the subjective consciousness and groupconsciousness to wake up.Through a description like economy, education, marriage andfamily, daily leisure, consumption, social welfare and other aspects ofShanghais women, I am trying to depict their attitude on the ancientand modern change eve, hoping to restore the inheritance andchange of the social life of women in this period from this perspective, tracing the source of the culture of Shanghai urban women. Theposition of women in social reality is more complex than men. By sight ofthe situation and distress of the women’s, we can not only examine theattitude that women face challenges, but also the parties attitude, thusperspective of the common problems faced by the entire community.
