Dissertation starts from the case studies of two artists, discusses how they use andlearn the history of art. Contemporary artists in the study of art history, it is solelydifferent artistic outlook from the interpretation of the image, the methodologyinherited or ethos reference eventually presents, which is related with thedevelopment of20th century philosophy, and eventually the artist’s subjectiveconsciousness plays a decisive role. In fact there are many artists learned the formerart style from art history in every generation. Art has been displayed in many differentways because of the back group in each era is different. There is a significant shift ofwestern philosophy started from the year of1960s’. Post modern philosophy providesa theoretical basis for the creation of the artist. Jasper Jones and Gerhard Richter,these two artists are typical representatives in this generation. Although their art styleswent different because of the subjective is totally different of there two artists. Thisdissertation is analysis how they learn and using art history to form their own art style.It is a reference to me, in order to create a better self-recognition and guide me moreeffective for my future creative work, but I also hope that through the analysis ofthese two artists can inspire just to engage in artistic creation, the artist soon.
