The creation and spread of military lyric songs in the late “Cultural Revolution” are animportant phenomenon in Chinese music, which is due firstly to the recovery and turnaroundin the Chinese culture and art in the late “Cultural Revolution” period, then to the “initialrectification” in the P.L.A. during the “Cultural Revolution” and the important status ofmilitary songs in Chinese music, and finally to the creation tradition of military lyric songssince the song of Ode to Yan’an. Those songs show the aesthetic features of “combininglyricism and combat”, and “combining times and nationality”. Meanwhile, their creation andspread broke the “silence” of Chinese musical circles during the period of the “CulturalRevolution” by somewhat changing the controlling status of “quotations songs” and “modeloperas”, thus giving a positive influence to the normalization of Chinese musical life and thedevelopment of Chinese music in the late “Cultural Revolution”. Most of these songs are theboutiques in Chinese military music, as well as the classics in the20th century’s Chinesevocal music. Therefore, they have important implications for the creation of present militarysongs, especially for military lyric songs.
