In the vocal music teaching and training, the study of throat and mastery of how to breathe have long been a major concern. Whether it is Chinese national singing or bel canto singing, a common concern is that the sound should be smooth, rounded and full. High quality of the sound produces supreme pure beauty. If we want to gain this beauty, we need nose to breathe correctly, resonance cavity to broaden widely. And the coordinate organ in the middle to connect them is throat. Opening throat is thought to be only the concern of bel canto singing, and does not matter in the Chinese national singing or other kinds of singing. In fact, although broadening your throat is valued very seriously in bel canto singing, now-ethnic singing and other fields of art begin to attach importance to the movement of throat. This paper studies how people breathe when working and living a life, distinguishes the ways people breathe when they are laboring and singing, and compare how vocal cords works in laboring and singing. With the "open-throat" singing exercises, this paper helps to learn how to open your throat and practice singing in a relaxed way, so as to generate truer and more correct singing and obtain deeper comprehension in singing a Chinese national song. And through a detailed description of specific vocal and singing situation, this paper also studies how to maintain open-throat in singing Chinese national songs.
