Li Yuan Poetic Thought Research

LiTiaoyuan is a famous scholar,poet and literature critics of SiChuan Province in the Qing Dynasty Emperor Qianlong, Emperor Jiaqing. He has strong literary review consciousness, besides that,he has theory monographs on poem and letter to poets.His Poetic thought system is based on 《The rain village poetry》(two volumes),《The rain village poetry》(sixteen volumes) and 《The rain village left poetry for》(fourvolumes),and congsists of 《ode words》,《a type of classical Chinese poetry words》,《song words》 and 《drama words》,together with his Poetry comments.The origin of LiTiaoyuan’s poetry comments is devided into three parts:one is the environment he was living in,another is the atmosphere where he was growing up,the last part is the cultural background where he was accepting his education. LiTiaoyuan was fond of talking about poetics.Although he was not able to develop any unique poetics proposal,he had made a conclusion and profound consideration on his poetics proposal.LiTiaoyuan accepted tradional poetic theory,in his opinion,the nature of poem was "Poem personality",meanwhile,he held that poem had its own realistic function according to academic background at that time.As a SiChuan person,he accepted the literature paradigm initiatively of BaShu,he reflected the tradion and characteristic of bashu in his poetic theory.As a scholar-type poet and critic, LiTiaoyuan attached importance to poem’s outer forms both on poetry creation and poetry appreciation. Poetry creation needs to consider the words and phrases carefully,and poetry appreciation needs to take "Xiang","Shuang" and "Lang" as standards.This paper attempts to get ideas from forming background, detailed contents,and the evaluation of his poetic thoughts. This paper will research and discuss his poetic theory in the view of diachronic and synchronic,combining with the regional culture view on BaShu and JiangZhe.
