United States Society entered the Post-Industrial Era in the late-1960s; the utmostabundance of material changed the value standard of design from popularizingmodernism design in material-scarcity times to promoting marketing. Between the1950sand1960s, a social crisis lurked in the rich and popular image of US society and graduallya post-modernist design thought occupied design theory circles in the1970s. With thecopious amount of material, design increasingly became the focus of cultural criticism. Inthe1960s, when social and cultural crises completely burst, mass-media widelybroadcasted the voices of criticism. The social and cultural problems behind materialdesign were hot topics of media editors. There are two points in these criticisms to beresearched: first, what and how media editors’ criticisms worked and effected designtheory; and second, by the way of media criticism and research on design, the discussionon the value of Design Criticism and the constructive path of this discipline.
