Research On Otto Escher's Design Criticism

Otl Aicher is not only a famous German graphic designer of the twentieth century,but also an outstanding design educator,but also an outstanding design theorist,critic.Under the influence of longstanding rational traditions,strong sense of crisis and revolt,Escher sharply perceived a deep crisis in the design of modernism in the second half of the 20 th century.By critically inheriting the achievements of his predecessors,Combined with his own specific design and education activities and design practice summary and reflection,Aicher pointed out sharply that the root cause of the crisis was that people did not correctly recognize the design of modernism,that is,the modernist design crisis is a Design crisis of self-awareness.In fact,Escher's entire design career is precisely around how to solve the crisis of modernist design and how to construct the design identity of German modernism.This essay takes Escher's academic texts as the main theoretical basis.Through the thorough analysis of Ashley's specific design education and design practice cases,and from the perspective of design,combined with relevant subject knowledge such as sociology,psychology and semiology,Aicher's criticism of design criticism to conduct a comprehensive and systematic discussion and interpretation,with a view to China's current design development and transformation,the current identity of China to build and identity bring some inspiration.
