The Analects of Confucius is the most direct and credible material that includes Confuciianism and Confucius’thoughts. Thus, The Analects of Confucius has become one of the classic works for scholars as it was listed in the remarkable works in Donghan. It is the enriched contents and the explanations from all the annotate and the researchers that the book has handed down till now.The Qing Dynasty is a period which highly summarized the Analects of Confucius. At that time, many scholars who devoted themselves into the research of historical works popped up in the academic change in late Qing dynasty, especially Mao Qiling. The outer remark on him goes to two extreme sides. One holds that he started the QiangJia sytle of study, the other blames that he was too arrogant. It should be begin from his works if we want to judge him in a reasonable view.The way of Mao Qiling’s annotation is very distinctive. He promotes that the scholars should apply the existing Confucian classics to explain itself at the same time emphasis the evidence. His works are extensive including the annotation of the Analects of Confucius that reflected his negative attitudes for Song Xue and Zhuxi and revealed his own way for annotation. He corrected Zhuxi’s mistake and paved a new way for the later generations to have a better understanding on the Analects of Confucius. This article aims to analysis Mao’s annotation for the humble effort on this research.This article can be divided as follows:Part One:this task and development for the inheritance for the Analects of Confucius and its effect on Mao’s annotation and the academic in Qing dynasty. the current research status and method.Part Two:the brief introduction for Mao’s life and achievements. Mao’s relative works on the Analects of Confucius from the view of edition and stylistic rules and layout.Part Three:According to the classification of Si Shu Gai Cuo, it can be divided into five parts. Combined with other Mao’s relative works on the Analects of Confucius, this essay will analysis the work in detail, emphasizing whether Mao’s objection to Zhu’s annotation was right or not.Part Four:It concluded the achievement for Mao’s annotation on the Analects of Confucius.
