Qian Dian is a famous scholar belonging to the Wu school of Qianjia Sinology in Qing Dynasty. In his time, he and Qian Daxin are two famous persons who share the same family name and come from the same city of Liu. The Annotation after the Analects of Confucius is his representive work in his early years. At present, few scholars have touched upon this masterpiece. Therefore, it is necessary to study it systematically.Firstly, this thesis makes an introduction of Qian Dian including his contributions by analysing some works, such as Bao Shicheng’s Essays on Poetics and Calligraphic Arts, Jiang Pan’s The Sinological Pedigree of Qing Dynasty, The History of Qing Dynasty and so on. Secondly, this thesis makes a detailed analysis of seven cases, namely different research versions, collations, collections of anonymous remarks, correction of notes, supplementary instructions, collections of sensible arguements and preservations of different opinions by studying masterpieces in the methods of integration of history and theory and comparative analysis. Thirdly, this thesis makes a comprehensive and systematic summary from the aspects of words and sentences, proper noun, the background information and sources of notes, writers’comments and so on. Finally, the thesis states the value of The Annotation after the Analects of Confucius and presents the author’s own opinions of it’s accomplishments and defects as well, hoping that readers could have a better understanding of this masterpiece...
